Another win for Brazil makes Agatha happy

Samba stars Agatha Bednarczuk and Duda are using their disappointing result in the World Championships as motivation for a medals at the World Tour Finals in Hamburg.

The Brazilians finished 17th in Vienna but have won both of their matches on German sand to book an automatic spot in the quarterfinals.

And Agatha believes the new team for 2017 can use that frustration to good affect as they aim to end the season on a high.

“It’s a good start, we’re first in our pool – that means one game less and that’s a big difference,” Agatha said after their straight sets win over Americans Lauren Fendrick and April Ross on the Red Bull Beach Arena.

“It’s a beautiful start and we’re very happy to begin this tournament with two wins.

“We were not happy with the World Championships. We finished 17th and after that we went back to Brazil and trained hard for two weeks so we’re happy with the our start here.”

With all eyes on 19-year-old Duda as she aims to become the youngest World Tour Finals winner, Agatha thinks their Viennese disappointment can help her young teammate develop even further.

“We are a new team and this is only the start of our journey,” said the 2016 Olympic silver medalist. “Duda is a girl with many victories in her career already and this disappointment is something we don’t like but something that is important because it’s something we learn from.

“She knows that we need to train a lot. In adult tournaments, matches are more difficult. Of course this is a learning curve and we’re learning together.”
