Agatha/Duda Czech into World Tour Finals semis
Agatha Bednarczuk and Duda are quickly making up for their disappointment at the World Championships in Vienna – and are now just one win away from a place in the final.
The Brazilians got a little bit of revenge on the Czech Republic’s Marketa Sluková and Barbora Hermannová after losing to them in the first elimination round at the world champs by beating them in straight sets on the Red Bull Beach Arena in Hamburg.
“We lost to them in Vienna so we knew it would be tough so this is a big win,” said 19-year-old Duda, who is aiming to be the youngest World Tour Finals winner. “It doesn’t matter who we play in the semis, we just need to keep doing what we’re doing.”
Last season’s Olympic silver medalist Agatha added: “We lost to them in Vienna – it’s not revenge but it is! But this is the sport – sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.”
With Duda already breaking record after record as she continues to impress on the international senior tour, the teenager admitted that nerves do get the better of her on occasions.
“I do feel the pressure,” she said. “I try not and let it show and I try to let out all of my emotions in the warm up.”
The Brazilians will face either fellow countrywomen Larissa/Talita or home favorites Laboureur/Sude in the last four. The match is set for 9pm CET – and you can watch it live on BeachStream. Click here to subscribe for free.
