Brazilians blitz Germans to reach the semis
“It was just ace, ace, ace!” laughed Talita Antunes after seven stunning aces in the second set from teammate Larissa Maestrini paved the way for their quarterfinal victory over Germans Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude on the Red Bull Beach Arena.
“That was amazing – it was no game with serves like that,” continued Talita. “I didn’t know what was happening.
“I was looking through the net and watching and I couldn’t believe it. She served so well – she was doing all the work and I was just taking it easy! If she can do this all the time I’d be grateful!”
The 2015 World Tour Finals champions’ reward for their 21-17, 21-10 win over the home favorites is a clash against fellow Brazilians Duda and Agatha.
“We know them very well,” said Talita. “We’ve played with them and against them for a long time so we know what we can do and I think if we can play our game we can beat them.”
Having lost their first two matches in the pool play, the Brazilians have turned it around and are now just one win away from a place in the final.
“After losing both matches, we’re back!” said Talita. “It’s good that we were able to learn from those matches and we’re getting better with every match. Yesterday was difficult but today is a new day.”
The semifinal is now complete with matches taking place under the Red Bull Beach Arena lights at 8pm and 9pm CET.
Ludwig/Walkenhorst v Humana-Paredes – 8pm
Agatha/Duda v Larissa/Talita – 9pm
