Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena win World Tour Finals gold!
A flawless performance from Nick Lucena and Phil Dalhausser secured World Tour Finals gold as they blitzed Brazilian World Champions Evandro Goncalves and Andre Loyola Stein in straight sets.
The 2015 World Tour Finals silver medalists went one better with a brilliant display on the Red Bull Beach Arena to deny the South Americans another gold following their success in Vienna two weeks ago.
The 21-15, 21-13 victory ensured the Americans made it back-to-back titles in Hamburg after they clinched gold in last year’s Hamburg Major.
And it was Dalhausser who was the man of the moment with a brilliant display at the net, with four winning blocks in a sizzling 10 point period in the second set.
That kind of dominance was enough to pave the way to gold and a payday of US 100,000 as World Champs Evandro and Andre struggled to find their rhythm. The fact that big-serving Evandro failed to register a single ace in the final told its own story.
“Winning never get old,” said 37-year-old Dalhausser, who collected the 37th title of his career and third this season. “Anytime you play Brazil in the final you know it’s going to be tough playing the world champions.
“It’s tough every year on tour but we’re happy to leave with gold.”
