A thousand thank yous Hamburg!
A week ago we rocked up at the Rothenbaum and were preparing for the greatest season finale beach volleyball has ever seen.
And if you’ve been paying close attention to our website and social media channels over the past six days, we think you’ll agree that it has been nothing short of sensational.
If there was any need for proof, you only had to take a look around at the thousands of smiling faces on Red Bull Beach Arena over the weekend to realize how much fun was had by us all – the fans, the players, the volunteers and every-amazing-body – that helped make the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals presented by Vodafone a massive success.
After 48 action-packed matches, two familiar teams were crowned our World Tour Final champions of 2017.
Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst completed a dramatic turnaround during an injury-hit season to wow their thousands of fans and win their second successive World Tour Finals title after gold in Toronto 12 months ago.
And while it’s been a season for young stars, it was ‘golden oldies’ Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, both 37, who finally got their hands on the top prize, after winning silver in Fort Lauderdale two years ago.
They were the stars that stole the show but it was the German people and beach fans that made us most welcome. We can’t wait to see you again, so thank you Hamburg, thank you Germany – thanks for the memories and bis bald!
