Poland on top in Hamburg as Fijalek/Bryl beat the Dutch
After their Vienna Major silver, Grzegorz Fijalek and Michal Bryl are on a mission to cement their place in the top 10 in the world at the Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals presented by Vodafone.
Their three-set victory over Dutch duo Robert Meeuwsen and Alex Brouwer ensured Poland started the day with two wins from two matches following the earlier win for Kantor/Losiak.
But having secured their first win in Hamburg, Grzegorz and Michal are pleased to see their hard work paying off.
“We practice a lot and we’re seeing a lot of good results,” said Fijalek afterwards. “We are very proud to be here in the Finals and proud to have beaten one of the best teams in the world in our first match here.
“There are no easy games in the world but we are still a young team and we have shown that if you practice your game a lot and have a good season then you can reach tournaments like this.”
Bryl, who blocked and served to perfection throughout the match, added: “We practice a lot. In Vienna we had the feeling we could win something. We’ve worked on a lot.”
On Poland’s perfect start to the tournament, Grzegorz added: “For us this is a big success for Poland. To have two teams in the top 10. The foundations were set for us to do well and now we must continue that.”
Next up for the victorious Poles are Anders Mol and Christian Sørum – the team they lost to in the final in Vienna. You can watch that live on BeachStream at 5pm.
