Spanish must win to stay in the Finals…
Spanish stars Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera go into their must-win match against the invincible Vikings to keep their Hamburg Finals dream alive.
The experienced duo, who are celebrating their 10-year anniversary as teammates this season, have lost all three of their matches at the Rothenbaum, with their latest set-back against Poles Grzegorz Fijalek and Michal Bryl particularly frustrating having won the first set.
Now Spain’s top men’s team must stop Anders Mol and Christian Sørum’s 21-match winning streak if they are to have any chance to continuing their Finals adventure in Germany.
“It will be tough – we lost to them in the Gstaad final and they are in a good moment right now,” Adrian told us after their loss to the Polish pair. “Anders and Christian want to beat the best unbeaten record but we want to stop them!
“They have a good combination and they are fresh, they are the beginning of their careers and are playing like they have been playing for 10 years together. But we know we are professional and have the right mentality but we will fight to stay in the competition.”
For the victorious Poles, they gained their own little revenge for a defeat at the European Championships.
“It was a tough game for us and we started really bad,” said Grzegorz. “After that first set we concentrated and we were much better. We lost easily against them in the Euros so this was revenge.”
See whether Herrera and Gavira can end the Norwegians unbeaten run and ensure they can stay alive in the competition when the two teams go head-to-head inside the Red Bull Beach Arena at 6pm CEST. Watch it live on BeachStream
