22 unbeaten Anders and Christian want more
Invincible Vikings Anders Mol and Christian Sørum became the first men’s team in Hamburg to advance to the knockout stages as they made it 22 matches unbeaten with a straight sets win over Spain’s Herrera/Gavira.
The Norwegians have won their last three tournaments, including the Gstaad Major final against Herrera/Gavira - and extended their international unbeaten sequence to 15 matches with their 21-14, 21-15 triumph on the Red Bull Beach Arena.
Yet despite their breathtaking run of form, the pair are hungry for more success.
“It was pretty good and we’re happy but we’re not satisfied,” said Anders afterwards. “We want to keep winning and play more games.”
The Scandinavian stars go into their final pool match on Thursday against Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen knowing another win would guarantee them a place in the semifinal at the Rothenbaum.
“Every game is of course important but we now see our match tomorrow as a quarterfinal,” added Anders. “We’ll relax and prepare, recover and go again.”
Once Anders came off the sand the first person to meet him was his coach and father, Kåre.
“I think he’s more nervous than we are,” smiles Anders, who was once again dominant at the net with four blocks. “When he’s not with us and we are playing he normally goes for a walk in the woods and doesn’t watch it. He’s really nervous when we play but I don’t think he had too many nervous watching this game.”
The Norwegians’ final pool game is a big one for Brouwer/Meeuwsen who will need to win themselves to assure themselves of a place in the elimination stage. Watch the match live on BeachStream at 3pm CEST.
