One of the biggest mysteries going into the new season is just about to be solved. Over the past days, the Olympic beach volleyball champion Kira Walkenhorst has been teasing us with hints about her new partner.
It's about time to unravel the secret about her new partner, she wrote in her Facebook posting, giving us an easy-to-solve puzzle: "My new partner for 2020 has won the Technicians Beach Tour twelve times and has already taken part in the DM in Timmendorf twelve times.
She followed it up the next day with another cryptic post, giving us more of her new partner's career statistics to wrap our heads around:
16 x 2nd place Techniker Beach Tour
15 x 3rd place Techniker Beach Tour
Most successful player Techniker Beach Tour 2019
Most Outstanding Player Techniker Beach Tour 2019
In all 12 participations at the German Championship at Timmendorf Beach always among the Top-10.
Even if we are still waiting for the official announcement, everything is pointing now in the direction of Melanie Gernert.
The situation for the presumable duo would not be completely new, as Kira and the 32-year-old defensive player already teamed up 2011 and played seven tournaments on the tour together.
One it became clear that Kira would return to the sand after retiring beginning of this year, rumours had it that Kira Walkenhorst would start again with a young player passing on her experience. As it looks now, she opted for experience.
