More mind-bending stats and facts in the wake of our first Major of the summer

Following swiftly in the footsteps of part one, here’s our second stat attack in the wake of last week’s epic first Major of the summer, the incredibly popular smart Major Hamburg.

And today we turn our attention to the men.

• No player won more blocks (40) than gold medallist American Phil Dalhausser.
• His partner Nick Lucena achieved more winning points per set than any other player (9.07 kills per set). How’s that for teamwork?
• Brazilians Alison/Bruno were involved in more rallies than any other team (670).
• Alison, however, scored 26 more points than any other man in the tournament (168).
• No team took part in more three-set matches than the Brazilians (4).
• Dutch teams Brouwer/Meeuwsen (1.93) and Nummerdor/Varenhorst (1.92) achieved more aces per set than any other team in the tournament.
• There were 73 matches played with just one forfeited due to injury.
• 67% of matches lasted two sets, compared to just 54% of women’s matches that ended in two sets.
• There were only 21 more errors (782) than services errors (761) in the tournament.
• During the tournament men made more blocks than women (572 to 359) but the women made more kills (4,126) than men (3,730).
• American John Hyden was the oldest player at the tournament at 43 years old.
• The youngest was German qualifier Julius Thole, who was just 19.
